Your Car Got Towed in Savannah — Here's Exactly What To Do

Step 1: Confirm it was towed, not stolen

Look for tow-away signs where you parked. If you were on a private lot, the sign must list the tow company that serves it. If you were on a city street, call Savannah Police at (912) 651-6675. If the police have no record of a tow, report the car stolen.

Step 2: Police tow — get the release

1. Go to Savannah Police headquarters, 201 Habersham St. Releases are handled 7 AM to midnight, every day.
2. Bring your driver's license, registration and proof of insurance.
3. Take the release to the tow company named on it and pay the tow and any storage fees there. There's no single city impound lot — cars go to the yard of the rotation company that towed them.
4. Call the yard first to confirm its hours and what payment it accepts.

Step 3: Private-lot tow — go straight to the tow company

Tows from apartment complexes, stores and private lots are "nonconsensual" tows, regulated by the Georgia Department of Public Safety. The company must post its name and number on signs at every entrance, and the fees it can charge are capped. Read Georgia towing rules and rate caps before you pay.

Booted instead of towed?

Savannah boots vehicles with four or more unpaid parking tickets. Contact City of Savannah Mobility & Parking Services, 100 E Bryan St, (912) 651-6470 (weekdays 8–5) to pay and have the boot removed.

Downtown parking enforcement hours

Metered parking north of Liberty Street is enforced Monday–Saturday, 8 AM–8 PM. South of Liberty Street, it's Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM.
